My Bbay! 20 On The Mission!

 Hola y'all!

This week I got to celebrate 2 holidays. Thanksgiving and my birthday. It was a pretty awesome week!

Monday we had a pretty chill pday at home in DeRidder. I got to call my family (my dad is in quarantine in our guest bedroom because he had just gotten home from a business trip to England - so that was fun). We also got cake and ice cream from Walmart for my birthday coming up on Wednesday. Then that night we had exchanges with the STLs from Alexandria. We met in the middle at some random place, called Cooter’s Bog. It was pitch black and there were definitely some animal and tribal noises coming from the woods...creepy! But don’t worry we made it back to DeRidder safely, me with Sister Jacobs and Sister Lynch with Sister Hollingsworth in Alexandria.

Tuesday was my last day as a teenager! That morning we went to go do service at ‘For the Critters’, a local non-profit thrift store. On the way out we saw our neighbors and they talked to us for like an hour since they'd never met Sister Jacobs before. She even invited them to come to church..they said no but we're still friends. Then we finally got to go do service - organizing clothes and cleaning things up at the store. Some lady even gave us some Satsumas. When we got back home our lesson got cancelled. Sadness. But we had our daily Book of Mormon reading with Brother Larimer. That night we went to dinner at the Mu'amoholevas. Since it was raining we didn’t get our usual Hawaiian barbeque, but they made us rice, curry and taro root (which looks like a potato but is definitely not a potato jaja). After dinner, Sister Jacobs and I left to switch back companions. Sister Hollingsworth made me cheesecake for my birthday on Wednesday! Then I got Sister Lynch back and we drove home to DeRidder.

Wednesday was my 20th birthday! For breakfast I made myself some eggs with left over sausage balls from Sister May - very yummy if I do say so myself. Then we went to district council in Many. The Zone leaders made a guest appearance to give a special discussion and refining. Afterwards we got lunch as a district minus the Nachitoches Elders...as usual. We all went out to Sonic and I treated myself to a shake since it was my birthday, ya know? Then we all had lunch together and Sister Lynch asked everyone to share their favorite thing about me - it was super nice. Sister Murdock even paid for my lunch by shoving cash down my shirt because I didn't want to let her pay for my lunch jajaja! When we got back to DeRidder our neighbor, Sean, was outside and he wished me a Happy Birthday and gave me 20 birthday punches. He said he would've kicked me too but he was feeling nice that day jaja. Before our lesson with the Jacksons we had leftovers from the Pembertons for dinner, delicious. At the Jackson's we ended up showing them President Nelson’s message of hope and they loved it. After we drove home and had a little birthday celebration. I got to call my family and open my presents with them and Sister Lynch made me a cake that I faked blowing out the candles (missionaries can't have fire) while my family sung me Happy Birthday. It was awesome. I love my family so much and can't wait to be with them forever!

Thursday was Thanksgiving!! One of my favorite holidays. For weekly planning we decided to go to a new park in downtown DeRidder. That was exciting. Then we went to the Marshall’s house for Thanksgiving dinner. They made the classics; a turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, corn casserole and some Southern rice dressing. It was literally all SOOO good. Then on top of that for dessert we had jello, sweet potato pie, pecan pie and apple pie, mmmm. After dinner we came home and got to call our families. It was a good day!

On Friday morning we had our first lesson with one of our Facebook referrals, Melissa. She even told us that she knows the Book of Mormon is true! It was a little hard to understand her over bad connections and technology, but it went well. That afternoon we finished weekly planning and called our entire list of people. I've never made so many phone calls at once in my life. We also created a post for Facebook of Sister Lynch juggling for our Alexandria Zone Facebook Page. She is awesome!

Saturday morning we had a district goal setting meeting over Zoom...let’s just say our district has some high goals, but we got this! Since we stayed inside most of the day we had to escape and take a walk that afternoon. The rest of the day we called members and made cookies for the Jacksons (they were Sister Lynch’s experiment, triple chocolate pumpkin cookies. So good).

On Sunday we went to church (little did we know it would be our last in-person church...RIP). Sister Lynch is arranging a piano piece for Zone conference so we stayed after so she could practice - that girl is talented. That night we got to go over to the Jackson’s again! Ja’Ron even had to remind his family to read Book of Mormon, and he is the youngest one. We read the climax of the Book of Mormon - when Jesus Christ visited the Americas. Ja’Ron had some really good questions about the plan of salvation. We were even able to talk to them about eternal families.

This holiday week I realized how much I love my family and want to live with them forever. And I know that is a blessing that comes from living the gospel of Jesus Christ and being sealed to my family forever in the temple. Boy oh boy am I grateful for temples and His restored gospel!

Have a blessed week!

Smile because God loves you and remember that I love, love, love y'all too!

Love,

Sister Johnson

I Love You More Than...BACON!

Hola y'all!

Still behind on the whole emailing thing...but I'm trying to catch up. My only current update would be that my entire district has COVID except for Sister Lynch and I! Don't worry, we're staying strong! And healthy jajaja!

Monday was Sister Lynch and I’s first pday together. Now usually on pday mornings after I’ve gotten up, I like to take a little nap. After I got ready, I went and laid back in bed, then I looked over at Sister Lynch and she had her exercise clothes on and then she said “Ready to go exercise?” I said, “Dude we don’t exercise on pday”, she was pretty shocked jaja. Later that day we went to Leesville for district pday. It was just us, the Leesville Sisters and the Many Elders though because Nachitoches is far away. We played volleyball and I discovered that Sister Lynch is a BOSS at volleyball! After pday we called Brother Larimer, texted some people, did some Facebook work and went to bed.

On Tuesday Sister May dropped by and gave us some of her famous sausage balls and they were SOOOO good! Literally the best things I've ever had! She is a true Cajun and can REALLY cook! After lunch we called a bunch of members and had a lesson with Brother Larimer and MIRACLE for the day a member, Brother Skarstedt, who called us to say he is the new ward mission leader! He just got back from his mission, so he made a plan for things to actually start happening in this ward!

Wednesday morning for exercise time, Sister Lynch and I attempted to play tennis at the tennis courts in our apartment complex...let’s just say that tennis is a lot harder than I thought jajaja. We also had district council, where I was giving the discussion on ‘Effective Study.’ So that morning I was finishing up planning my discussion when we got a knock on the door. Our neighbors, Josh and Agusto were out there...a bit tipsy...but they started asking us about our day in the middle of me finishing up my discussion! It's ok though because Josh friended us on Facebook and he recommended some good Christian music too! Then we left for district council in Leesville. I like to think my discussion went pretty well hopefullly. After district council we had lunch together, minus the Nachitoches Elders because they had an appointment. Then we came back home to DeRidder, called Brother Larimer and then called Deedee, a less active member in our ward who is so sweet but she needs a friend. Then we left for dinner at the Landry’s. Sister Landry is super nice and eager to do missionary work, she also makes great chicken!

On Thursday morning we called Elder Miyasaki to talk about church history for our lesson that afternoon. We were really scared that the lesson would turn into a bashing (kind of like Bible bashing but against our church) so he was helping us be prepared (this missionary literally knows all of the crazy stuff I've never even heard about!). Let’s just say I still have a lot to learn. After lunch we went to the park for weekly planning since our bashing lesson got cancelled. After a few hours of calling people at the park we came home and talked to our neighbors. Also I may be lactose intolerant, but we will see how that works out! Jajaja.

Friday we got to listen President Nelson’s message of hope! Which was so awesome! I invite all of y’all to go and watch it if you haven't (yes I know this was a month ago...I am a bit behind on my emails). It is just such an amazing message of hope on the healing power of gratitude AND it's less than 12 minutes long! That afternoon Sister Cooke dropped us off a whole bag of Satsumas (basically they are oranges) which was really nice. Then later that day we went to the Beardsley’s for dinner. They had pasta salad...I think...with bell peppers and cubed cheese...wack. When we shared the spiritual thought, since it was almost Thanksgiving, we asked them what they were all grateful for. I think my favorite response was from 5-year old Dean. He was trying to think of something he was grateful for, so Sister Beardsley stepped in and asked, “I love you more than…” and Dean yelled “BACON!” so Dean was very grateful for bacon in his life jajaja!

On Saturday morning we had a monthly vehicle training meeting with the whole mission over Zoom. We even played Kahoot for 50 extra miles!! Now that is big in the life of a missionary surviving on an allotment of miles each month! That afternoon we had a lesson with the Jackson family! We discussed the gospel of Jesus Christ and Ja'Ron asked about how he can have the Spirit with him always so we told him about the gift of the Holy Ghost. And then we discussed how baptism can make us clean, he yelled “I need that!” So we invited them to be baptized and they said they would pray about it! The mom, Janaya, had been baptized in another church though so we don't know if she quite understood the invitation was to all 3 of them...but we'll work on it! That evening Sister Lynch had her second pass off (of 12 to finish her training) with the STLs (Sister Training Leaders)and she passed, obviously jaja! Also a fun fact about Sister Lynch - she juggles! So every night after 9 pm she practices her juggling using some tennis balls in our apartment. It's pretty cool.

Sunday morning we went to church. Unfortunately we were unable to find a ride to get the Jacksons to church...but they ended up cancelling anyway. Another fun fact about Sister Lynch, she plays the piano. So she played the piano in primary! After church we came home and did some personal study and I decided to start reading the Bible, beginning with the New Testament...let’s just say it's a pretty complicated place, but it's good! That night we went over to dinner at the Pemberton's house. They are literally so sweet and Sister Pemberton can COOK! We had pot roast, potatoes, salad, biscuits and for dessert a berry cobbler! Sister Pemberton even offered to teach us how to cook! Not only can the Pembertons cook, but they are also spiritual giants! When we shared our spiritual thought on gratitude, each one of them shared the strongest testimonies ever!  They are so awesome!

Just another awesome week in the mission! My companion, Sister Lynch, is the best! Our ward is getting more involved! And I'm reading the Bible! The Bible is so different from the Book of Mormon, well they contain the same doctrine, but the Bible is a lot more difficult to understand and Matthew packs A LOT of stuff in just one chapter! It's so cool though to see how both books of scripture testify of Jesus Christ and how much the New Testament talks about His life! There is just so much to learn about His gospel and I really love learning more every single day!

Have a blessed week!

Smile because God loves you and remember that I love, love, love y'all too!

Love,

Sister Johnson

My Child Is Born! (Sister Lynch)

 Hola y'all!

So I haven't written an email in a hot minute, but I'm gonna try to catch up so here it goes! (Also to give a quick update I've moved! Again (don't worry I'm in the same complex just another building)! My new address is 410 Somerset Drive, Apt. E, DeRidder, Louisiana 70634)

Tuesday was pday! In the morning we went to the laundromat and while we were there, a 70-year old man hit on Sister Teague...what fun! Then we came home and had lunch before going to Leesville for pday.  The whole district was there to say goodbye to Elder Teare (going to Portugal) and Elder Hales (transferring to New Orleans). After district pday, we went to Popeye’s for dinner with the Leesville sisters. It was really good, it's no Chick-fil-a but still good jaja. After that we drove back to DeRidder and went to say goodbye to the Jackson family. Sister Teague was super sad to say goodbye to them. When we came home, we talked to our neighbor Josh, Sister Teague packed up and I cleaned up the apartment.

Wednesday was transfer day! We had to get up at 5:50 AM! Oof! It was a 3.5 hour drive to Hammond, Louisiana where the transfer point would be. Once we got there, we stopped by Smoothie King for breakfast and then met up with all the other missionaries. I found Sister Farris and she got all the trainers together. We waited for about an hour before they let us in the chapel to find our trainees. When we finally got in I couldn’t find her - I kept asking everyone, “have you seen Sister Lynch?” Then suddenly I found a red headed girl that fit the one picture I had of her! I gave her the biggest hug! Then Sister Farris and Elder Obray gave us some training. It was crazy to have seen them put together this presentation that I was now sitting in and watching them do! Sister Farris even gave me a few reassuring looks, which made me a lot less nervous. Then BOOM they made us do a role play, right there on the spot, this meant that Sister Lynch had to explain the Book of Mormon to me (as I pretended to be a stranger on the street). She did so good! I would not have been able to do that on my first day! After the training meeting we went out to get Cane’s for lunch with Sister Murdoch and her trainee, Sister Zook. It was Sister Lynch’s first time eating Southern food! She couldn't get over their Texas toast! That stuff is GOOD! After lunch we embarked on our journey home! Surprisingly, Sister Lynch talked a lot (thank goodness, since I'm not much of a talker) She talked about a lot of random stuff, she was even in marching band!  We finally got back home after dark when our neighbors were outside. Sean showed us his Ouija board welcome mat, he thought Sister Lynch looked like a witch and thought we should use the Ouija board sometime. We told him that isn’t exactly how we work...Then we went inside and got to call Brother Larimer. This was Sister Lynch’s first lesson EVER and it was awesome! I did most of the talking, but she added some of her own thoughts at the end. Then we went to Walmart to get groceries and  bedding for Sister Lynch and met Bishop and Sister Bolyan there. Then we came home, ate food and called it a day.

Thursday was Sister Lynch’s very first full day in a proselyting mission! She actually spent like 5 months in the Kirtland, Ohio church historic sites so she's basically a church history nerd and has been a missionary for a while. She's just never taught a single lesson. Crazy! That afternoon we went to Ray’s house. We helped clean up his yard and met his neighbor, Misty, also Ray (a one-legged man in a wheelchair) got up on an ATV and was riding it all around his yard...still not sure how he does that... Then Ray proceeded to tell Sister Lynch his entire life story - it was quite the welcome to DeRidder Louisiana. Then as we finished cleaning up his patio he said we could bring our bibles next time!! MIRACLE!! Afterwards we went home, changed and went to pick up dinner from Sister Bolyan. She is literally so sweet, she gave us little salads, rice, meat and mini-pecan pies! She is the best! Sadly our lesson got cancelled that night, but Josh knocked on our door so he could meet Sister Lynch. That was exciting. Sean was out there too and they asked us to  convince them to "join our cult" in 5 minutes. Then he set a timer and said “go!” This being Sister Lynch’s first day, I took the lead. There are so many things I would have liked to say in those few  minutes, but I shared the importance of families and how families can be together forever and how you will not find a more everlasting and fuller joy then the joy you feel from living the gospel of Jesus Christ. I’m not entirely sure how they felt about it, but they continued to ask questions, so I guess that is something! Sister Lynch even recited all the 10 commandments in order for them! That was a proud “mom” moment (in the mission your trainee is called your child...missionaries are weird...jaja)!

On Friday we had district council in Many! Since Sister Hansen and Sister Cave were staying in Denham Springs for the weekend, Sister Murdoch and Sister Zook had 3 empty seats in their Chevy Malibu so we CARPOOLED! Saved us a buttload of miles (we have a specific mileage allotment per car in the mission and we just never seem to have quite enough jaja)! We got there and all the new people and Elders were kinda awkward, but... Then guess who surprised us?!?! Sister Cave and Sister Hansen!! They made it to district council! So we had the whole district there! Elder Engler is our new District Leader in Nachitoches and Elder Miyasaki (Elder Pratt's new trainer) gave the discussion. Afterwards we went to Subway, but the Nachitoches Elders had to go, so it was just us, the 4 Leesville sisters and 2 Many Elders. It was fun though! Then we drove back to Leesville and hung out in their apartment since we had an appointment that night in Leesville (to save miles). We did all our studies, took a walk and then all 6 of us went to the Mu'amoholeva's (Tongan family in Rosepine ward boundaries but go to Leesville ward (my new favorite emoji jaja)) for dinner. They are so hilarious and give us SO much food! We had Hawaiian BBQ, rice, potato salad and Sister Morris-Utu  brought cupcakes! I had 3 whole plates full of food and thought I was going to explode!! I also accidentally swallowed some food and like actually choked on it...literally almost died but no one could tell because of all the laughter...let's just say the Lord was on my side. That night Sister Lynch also passed off her first "I Can Statement" of 12 to complete her training in 12 weeks!! She's awesome!

Saturday we did the usual studies, weekly planned and had some interesting phone call conversations. We called one of our referrals, Darlene, and her husband took over the phone saying he was super interested in the "mormons" and has never met any of them. He asked us a BUNCH of questions and at one point even asked "Who is Jesus?"..in the background we heard a muffled "a Mormon?" That was pretty hilarious! He really wants to meet and ask all of his questions! He even asked us to bring a "mid-level person" to our meeting to help answer questions...only slightly nerve racking...Anyways...we went over to the Jackson's house that night. The mom, Janaya, even got on her boys about the need to read the Book of Mormon! She's so awesome!! We ended up showing them the Restoration video and they loved it! It made so much sense! They even related it to their own lives!

Sunday morning I spent preparing my talk in church! It was Sister Lynch's first Sunday and they asked us both to give talks (15-20 minute talk on a certain topic). I finished mine up just before we left for church! I was super nervous! It was only like my second or third talk at church EVER! And I was the last speaker! Meaning if we had time to fill, it's my job to keep talking! That was freaky! Sister Lynch got a little nervous and only gave a talk for about 13 minutes, leaving me with the rest of the 20-25 minute chunk of time...wonderful for my public speaking nerves...but alas I did it! I talked for like a solid 20 minutes and took up just enough time, leaving 5 minutes for the closing song. It was freaky but I did it! After church we did our studies and both of our lessons cancelled that afternoon. But it gave us some time to call our peeps. Then we journaled, had some ice cream (Sister Lynch loves ice cream too!!) and went to bed.

Overall it's been quite the exciting week. At the beginning of the week I said goodbye to Sister Teague going home and welcomed a semi-brand-new missionary, Sister Lynch, to Louisiana! I'm super nervous to be a trainer and don't really feel like I know what I'm doing, but hopefully I'll get the hang of it eventually jaja! My testimony continues to grow little by little, day by day and I seriously can't wait for the day I finish reading the entire Book of Mormon. I already know how powerful it is in my life and seriously just want to share it with everyone.

Have a blessed week!

Smile because God loves you and remember that I love, love, love y'all too!

Love,

Sister Johnson

The Book Of Mormon Answers All Of My Questions

Hola y'all!

Ok so A LOT of stuff happened this week. It was crazy, but I'll just let y'all read about it ;)

Monday was Zone pday! So we did all our morning stuff (showered, ate breakfast, personal studied, etc.) before going to the Laundromat. Then drove over to Leesville and got the trio loaded up in the back of our car to carpool to Alexandria! What a fun drive! We even grabbed Cane's for lunch to eat at the Alexandria church building! As a zone (3 districts of missionaries) we played cards, basketball (PIG and Speed) and a little bit of soccer. :) Then Sister Teague and I drove the Leesville sisters home and I found a Halloween treat waiting at my door! CHIP COOKIE! I've never eaten Chip cookie in LOUISIANA! What a good time! Best surprise ever (*thanks mom!*)! We even got to eat some while watching a devotional from one of the apostles!

On Tuesday we went for a run...well Sister Teague ran and I did some speed walking for exercise, we even saw our neighbor, Josh, getting home from work (he works as a correctional officer on the night shifts). We did our normal morning stuff and during companion study we heard a knock…on OUR door. Let me just say that as a missionary, someone knocking on MY door is quite the turn of events! Sister Teague ran to put a dress on (she gets super cold in the mornings so she wraps up in sweats, a sweatshirt and blanket), I threw her laundry that was on the couch on her bed and answered the door! It was Josh and his friend Agosto, asking to know more about what we are all about. Literally a missionary's dream! Someone knocking on their door! Asking about what we do! It was crazy! Agosto had only heard of "Mormons" (our nickname) from a guy who said we practice polygamy. We assured him that we don't have multiple wives and tried explaining who members of our church are and the whole mission thing. We learned that Josh is actually super religious and is even an ordained minister! So that was cool! Then it started to get weird when they asked about what happens after the mission.. .but we said that if they had anymore questions to feel free to knock on our door. Then we went back inside and continued our companion study. Soon after that though there was another knock on the door...they said they had more questions, so this time we grabbed our shoes and chairs to go sit outside with them. They continued to ask us "what is a Mormon" and the difference between our religion and others. Instead of repeating the simple answers, Sister Teague gave them the shortest version of our unique message that the Restoration of Christ's New Testament church is on the earth today I've ever seen. We even gave Agosto a Book of Mormon and they both thought it was cool that Christ visits the Americas in it. Josh even said that if Agosto doesn't read the book, he will look at it! Apparently Josh's fiance's mom is a member of our church! That explained why his fiancee always avoids us...Then Josh proceeded to quiz us on the books in the Book of Mormon, we think he may be actually interested but tries to play it off. Then somehow Josh told us a story of Agosto on Halloween and that Agosto thought Sister Teague was "stunning" and embarrassed himself when we first met him. That was awkward...and we went back inside to start making lunch. In the middle of lunch there was a third knock on the door! This was getting a little ridiculous now...but we opened it and they just kind of walked away and Josh said if Agosto didn't want to ask his question then we could go...so we went back inside. Sister Teague said she knew exactly what Agosto's question was...he wanted to ask her out! Not too long after that, we heard the fourth and final knock on our door. We opened it and Agosto asked about our free days, worried about where this was going, I said that we don't have any free days, just Monday that we spend preparing for the week, calling our families, buying groceries, doing laundry, etc. I thought that would work, but they also knew Sister Teague was going home in like a week...he asked her about her plans after the mission and if she wanted to hang out. It was SO AWKWARD and she rejected him politely and he just kept pushing saying "just one night could change your life". She even tried telling him she has a boyfriend back home, but he just kept asking for one day with her. Somehow we eventually closed the door and both died over how utterly horrible that went jajaja. Then we went to Cecilia's for a lesson but no one answered so we just left a note like back in the days of Sister Farris.  We then came home, called people, had our usual scripture read with Brother Larimer, dinner and a language study call. Then we ate the cheesecake Sister Teague made! Yum!

Wednesday we had district council in Many and we carpooled with the Leesville trio. Although I don't know who decided on the seating arrangement of putting me, tall Sister Teague and Sister Hansen in the back with the 2 smallest girls Sister Murdoch and Sister Christensen in the front?? That was a fun drive. At district lunch we celebrated Elder Teare's birthday and Mama Hales made better than anything* cake which was delicious! Then we drove back to Leesville to have our lesson with Sister Hancock. She had some interesting thoughts about trying to find herself IN the Book of Mormon...we explained how everyone can apply scriptures to their own lives, but she's convinced that it writes about HER in there because a missionary once told her that...I have some words for that missionary jajaja. Then we stopped by the church on the way home to drop off the sewing machine we borrowed and Brother Pontiff was there and asked us to speak in church on Sunday...Sister Teague would be home, but I had no excuse. So that's fun. But we came home, read the Book of Mormon with brother Larimer, I made pizza for dinner and we got to finally finish our personal study. I was being stubborn about something and was torn between doing or not doing something and thought that where I was reading in the Book of Mormon might have an answer. I read the chapter heading and was like "great this has nothing to do with my situation. I'm not going to find anything in this chapter." Well Heavenly Father always likes to prove me wrong and so of course that random chapter answered my personal question I had been thinking about for YEARS. Even when I was SURE that the chapter in no way could answer my yes or no question, it did. God always finds a way to speak to me through the scriptures. And that's how the Book of Mormon answers all of my questions, even when I'm being stubborn about it

On Thursday we had service scheduled that morning, but couldn't find Tony's address. We asked the people in his supposed neighborhood and searched for like 30 minutes before deciding to go home after already trying to call him. That was a little sad. When we came home they had started reroofing all the buildings in our complex at the same time! During personal study all I could focus on was the random bangs on the roof from the guys hammering in the roof stuff. That was a little annoying and made it hard to concentrate, but we tried to just drown it out with instrumental music :). After lunch we left the house to go to the park for weekly planning. We had to figure out this whole mess with 4 of our referrals that some other Sisters just sent over to us because they were "too busy to focus on them"??? So that's a fun situation. Then we went home, made shrimp and scallop fettuccine alfredo pasta for dinner before going to the Jacksons. They were really tired when we went over, so we just read from the Book of Mormon with them. But it was still good. When we came home our apartment smelled like fish so we opened all the windows and the front door as we ate cheesecake and ice cream in the dark so the bugs wouldn't come in. But then Agosto came out of Josh's apartment and was like "what the *heck?" to our apartment wide open with the lights off, that was pretty hilarious jajaja.

Friday was a pretty chill day. Our Bible study got cancelled and we called a billion people and members. We decided to make cookies for AJ since it was his 15th birthday recently and he hadn't told us! After dinner we went and delivered the cookies. Janaya was home, but the boys were at the game. It was good to get more contact with them throughout the week though. Then we watched a devotional from one of the apostles before bed.

On Saturday we got to go over to Valorey's house again. We talked and got her husband, Bruce, to join us when we read from John 10 in the Bible. We introduced them to the Book of Mormon, but apparently they used to have the Elders come ever and play basketball all the time. Except they thought the Elders were too pushy and asked them not to come back...But Bruce has read from the Book of Mormon and even showed us his copy (with a fat red "DISCARD" stamp on it, oof). He said he's read some of it, but doesn't accept it all.  He says that when it confuses him he reads it with the Bible to make more sense! Then he proceeded to show us his entire collection of different Bibles! There was even a Bible written where everyone was of African descent and had pictures and everything. It's just so crazy how many different perspectives there are in the world! When Sister Teague said goodbye to them, Valorey even cried! They are so sweet! We came home and after dinner went to the Jacksons. This time we brought Sister Britt from our congregation who also has teenage kids. We taught the Restoration of the gospel and it was so cool to see Sister Britt share her testimony and how she connected with Janaya! Ja'Ron is so accepting of everything we have to say and when Sister Britt brought up the story of the stripling warriors we showed it to him in his Book of Mormon picture book and he was like "so they went BEAST MODE?!" He got super excited about reading the stories! We even invited them to church! Janaya had to work but she said the boys could go! It was such a great lesson! Then we came home and watched Luz de Naciones (a broadcast of different songs and dances from Spanish culture) and it was so cool to hear President Nelson, the prophet, speak to us IN SPANISH! He's still working on the language, but I understand almost all of what he said! Probably because he's a gringo too, but still! It was awesome how much effort he's putting in, as a 96 year old man to learn another language!

Sunday morning the Jacksons said they couldn't come to church, that was pretty sad, but maybe next time! We went to church and this was the first Sunday they let 65+ age people back to church, so they were all there pretty early for the full 2 hour church block. Then they asked Sister Teague to bear her testimony before the speakers as a surprise since she'd be gone. Since we've only been having 30 minute church, I think the speakers weren't used to the longer talks and we had like 20 minutes left in sacrament meeting...so Brother Marshall got up and asked me to come bear my testimony to fill the time! So I went up and bore my testimony for like 10 minutes, I couldn't say everything since I'm literally speaking in church next Sunday! The ward is gonna get pretty sick of hearing from me soon enough jajaja. Then we got to help Sister May with the little primary kids since all the primary teachers were gone. That was really fun! I just love kids so much! After church we went home, ate lunch and Sister Twague told me about her dream that I would be a trainer since leadership gets their calls on Sunday. I told her that she was crazy and that there was NO WAY I'm ready for that! I feel like I just got here and I still know nothing! But then we got ready to go to Cecilia's granddaughter's birthday party. We've only had one lesson with Cecilia, but she invited us to the party and it was the most AWKWARD event of my entire life! It was just her family and the kids were off playing while practically none of the adults talked to each other, they just stood in groups smoking. No one even talked to us! Then the birthday girl opened all her presents, had cake and everyone left. Cecilia even forgot we were there! Yeah...it was rough jajaja. Then we came home to finally start our personal study when we got a call...from PRESIDENT AMOS! My heart dropped! Why would he be calling today?! Only leadership gets transfer calls on Sunday?! We answered and he talked to Sister Teague about leaving and coming to stay in the mission home, then he asked to talk to me! He said I'd be staying in DeRidder as a TRAINER! I think I just about died right then and there. He said I'd be training Sister Lynch, but it was special because she was coming from the Kirtland Ohio historic sites and had been there as a missionary for the summer, but that we'd figure out how to handle that later. I was so shocked that when he asked if I had any questions, I couldn't think of any...of course I thought of a million things after the call, but that's fine. After this call, I straight up cried about how totally freaked out I was to have the responsibility of another missionary and leading the area. I am not ready for that at all! Sister Teague and I spent the rest of the night stalking her on Facebook, talking about the area and Sister Teague giving me all her missionary/trainer knowledge (she was a trainer like 2 or 3 times). Quite a stressful night.

Monday was not pday since it was transfer week, so I have more proselyting stuff to tell y'all about from Monday :). That morning there was a trainer meeting led by SISTER FARRIS and Elder Obray! It was so weird being in the meeting after I'd seen so many of those meetings and watched them behind-the-scenes. She even gave a little pep talk speech at the end and I feel like she was talking to me, knowing I was terrified. After the meeting we went to do service at For the Critters, this lady who runs a thrift store and uses the money to help spade and neuter animals. The place was kind of a mess and the lady was slightly crazy, but it was some good service to organize everything more. That night we went over to Sister May's house for dinner and we brought a table to eat outside. She is the sweetest little old lady and made us Jambalaya, cornbread, veggies and eclairs for dessert! It was all so good! She even told us about her conversion story and some advice for a lady Sister Teague used to teach in Lafayette. Sister May is awesome! On the way home we stopped by Sonja's (a referral) house, but she wasn't home. To end off the night we had a Zone Zoom call to talk about stuff and helped Sister Teague pack up for tomorrow.

Overall this week was full of a lot of good stuff and some scary/exciting stuff to come. I'm super sad Sister Teague is going home, but I'm excited/nervous to pick up my greenie (new missionary). This next transfer I know that I'll have to rely on the Lord A LOT! And I know that He will magnify me because there is no way I can do it alone. I am so grateful for my testimony that continues to grow and for how important the scriptures have become in my life. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and that it can answer your questions because it's answered every single one of mine so far! I am nervous, but excited for everything coming my way :).

Have a blessed week!

Smile because God loves you and remember that I love, love, love y'all too!

Love,

Sister Johnson
